Taking proper care of your board will ensure a long life and many years of use.
Caring for your cutting board
-
Initial Care
Before use we recommend applying food-safe mineral oil to your board. Before shipment your board was coated in a heavy layer of mineral oil & buffed with board wax, but additional oiling will prevent cracking and warping and can ensure a long life.
After your board is oiled, feel free to give it a quick wash with warm water and mild detergent and dry thoroughly, then you’re ready for use!
We recommend using a food-safe mineral oil, one that is edible and tasteless. Be cautious of using nut oils as this can trigger allergic reactions. Never use vegetable, coconut, or olive oils in caring for your board, as these contain fats and can turn rancid over time.

How to Clean
First scrape off any stuck food with a scraper or spatula (never use a steel brush!). Then scrub the board thoroughly with warm water and a small amount of dishwashing detergent. Never soak or submerge your board in water! Rinse well and dry immediately, followed with oil and board butter.
Additionally, you can sanitize your cutting board with a 1:1 mixture of vinegar and water. Pour an excessive amount of the solution on the cutting surface, allow it to stand for a moment, then rinse and dry thoroughly. Follow that up with oil and board butter.
Always ensure your board is dry when not in use. Prop it up on one edge or store flat on its feet, if it has them. Not keeping your board dry can cause warping and allow food bacteria to grow (without moisture food bacteria will not survive more than a few minutes).
-
Oiling
Using mineral oil keeps your board from drying out and possibly cracking over time. With this in mind, it is important to oil all faces of your board to keep it healthy.
Pour oil out an ounce at a time and rub in with your fingers or a paper towel or rag. Let it soak in for a few minutes and then wipe off any excess with a clean paper towel or rag.
Don’t worry about over-oiling, especially in the beginning. We recommend oiling once a week for the first couple of months, then once a month for the next few months, and then as needed from there.

Waxing
Using board butter acts as a surface protectant and can help prevent stains and knife marks.
To apply, rub a small amount with your hands, a rag, or buffing pad to both surfaces of your board. Allow it to sit for a few minutes and then wipe any excess off.
While using only oil to keep your board healthy is a great idea, using board butter as well helps to ensure a long, healthy life for your board. We recommend always waxing your board after oiling.
Caring for your charcuterie board
Your charcuterie board comes already treated with a layer of mineral oil and board butter. Depending on use and cleaning, you will need to apply more oil and board butter to keep your board healthy and ensure a long life.
Following the steps listed above, apply a coat of mineral oil and board butter to the wood surface of your charcuterie board when you receive it. We still recommend washing after each use and aplying mineral oil and board butter after each wash, as stated in the cutting board instructions above.
Caution: This is a serving board, not a cutting board. Cutting on charcuterie boards can leave knife marks, which could cause food contamination.
